Project Controls Manager

LGL Inc. is seeking a Project Controls Manager with Industrial project experience. This is a full-time position based out of LGL’s office located in Bartow, Florida.

LGL is an industrial fabricator and contractor self-performing Structural Steel, sheet metal, Millwrighting, Tanks and Vessels, Electrical and Instrumentation work. We have offices in Long Sault, Ontario, Syracuse, NY, and Bartow, FL and perform work throughout CANADA and THE continental USA.

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: 

Responsible for the development of the overall project schedule including integration of (i) changes to the scope, and (ii) any delays to the progression of the work on LGL projects. 

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Development of the overall project schedule including integration of (i) changes to the scope, and (ii) any delays to the progression of the work
    • Developing and implementing project control strategies and plans that support the overall project goals and objectives
    • Leading the development and implementation of project control standards and procedures to ensure consistent and effective project management practices across all projects
    • Establishing project performance metrics and developing tools and techniques to track, monitor, and report on project progress against established benchmarks and goals
  • Updating the project schedule through assessment of progress and input from all disciplines’ superintendents, and performing analysis of any schedule delays, and manpower levelling
  • Interpreting the data, and actual completion dates, with an objective to identify potential issues, and areas, where work needs to be prioritized, to rectify any delays
  • Serving as the central point of contact and communications for the purposes of schedule and progress updates between different disciplines that are being performed by Laframboise/LGL (Concrete, Structural Steel, Mechanical, Piping, Insulation), and upper construction management
    • Collaborating with project managers, project teams, and clients to develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and forecasts
    • Collaborating with project managers, engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure that project control requirements are met and that project deliverables are achieved on time and within budget
    • Providing guidance and training to project teams on project control processes, tools, and techniques
  • Proactively managing project schedule risks, mitigating as necessary
    • Facilitating project risk management processes and ensuring that risks are properly identified, assessed, and mitigated throughout the project lifecycle
    • Ensuring that project risks are identified and mitigated through effective risk management processes
  • Establishing and managing proprietary procedures and methods for determining the progress of construction activities
  • Integrating progress measurement of work elements and various disciplines into an integral contract-wide progress measurement, and reporting
    • Managing the preparation of project control reports, dashboards, and presentations for stakeholders, including executive leadership, clients, and partners
  • Preparing analytical reports and guidelines for project managers and clients and communicating and following up on action items
  • Developing and managing the preparation and updates of schedules, tables and graphs for the purposes of communicating progress and schedule on a weekly basis
  • Assist in providing information and support for proposals and RFPs
  • Perform special projects, research and/or analysis as required by the client or internal requests
  • Other tasks as assigned
    • Participating in project bid and proposal efforts to ensure that project control requirements are properly identified and accounted for in project pricing and delivery.
    • Identifying opportunities for process improvement and leading initiatives to implement changes that enhance project control and project delivery
    • Ensuring that project control activities comply with project contractual requirements and industry best practices
    • Facilitating project control meetings and presentations to project teams, management, and clients

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Project Management, or a closely related engineering field
  • 6 months of experience in managing projects in the paper production industry
  • 30 months of experience in managing multi-disciplinary projects including civil, mechanical, piping, structural, and/or electrical projects with budgets exceeding $25 million and project teams exceeding 25 people
  • 30 months of experience in progress tracking, including developing tools for tracking, creating forecasts (estimations and presenting forecast at completion), and presenting recommendations
  • 6 months of experience using POWER BI for presenting live, interactive, and informative Earned Value Curves in engineering projects
  • 18 months of experience in quantity surveying in engineering projects
  • 6 months of experience in claim documentation/processes in engineering projects
  • Strong computer skills including Outlook, Microsoft Office, etc.
