Safety Representative
The LAFRAMBOISE GROUP is seeking a Safety Represenative with Industrial project experience. This is a full-time position based out of LGL’s corporate office in Long Sault (Cornwall) Ontario.
LGL is an industrial fabricator and contractor self-performing, Piping, Structural Steel, Sheetmetal, Millwrighting, Tanks and Vessels, Electrical and Instrumentation work. We have offices in Long Sault Ontario, Syracuse NY, and Bartow FL and perform work throughout the continental USA and Canada.
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Responsible for monitoring, managing, prioritizing, and ensuring the Safety of our team while mitigating and addressing hazards in a safe and efficient manner on LGL projects. Be an advocate/leader for safety and accident prevention!
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Knowledge of CCOHS regulatory requirements, including local, state, and federal guidelines.
- Communicate safety requirements and expectations. Set the example of LGL’s commitment to a Safe Work Environment.
- Oversee and ensure safe daily operations in the field. Respond to and provide immediate project safety needs.
- Coach and Train workers on safety policies, procedures, and practices. Including various training sessions (New Hire Orientation, Annual Refresher, Retaining, Standdown meetings, etc.) for new hires, sub-contractors, and visitors.
- Prepare and present daily toolbox talks and weekly safety meetings.
- Prepare Job Hazards Analysis’ as required.
- Review all Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRA)
- Conduct daily documented site inspections and audits to identify existing/potential risks, compliance, and prevention.
- Develop effective strategies to mitigate risks as they arise in the field.
- Monitor for compliance and enforce safety policies, procedures and regulations, issue disciplinary action for violations.
- Write and update Safe Job Procedures and Safe Work Practices as needed.
- Provide immediate on-scene assistance and management in the event of an incident.
- Assess and administer first-aid as needed.
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses and recommend appropriate corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain a daily log of duties and activities and safety records.
- Ensure all administrative aspects of site safety are addressed. This includes collection of trade safety certificates, site signage, maintaining up to date information on safety boards, and ensuring all documentation is stored appropriately.
- Issues and maintains stock of personal protective equipment as required.
- Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate effectively with others.
- Ability to hold other accountable and coach effectively.
- Ability to deal with confidential situations - medical or proprietary in nature.
- Additional safety-related duties as required.
- Must be willing to work rotations in and out of remote project settings (from several weeks to 12 months).
- Travel to project sites and after-hours availability as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 3+ years of construction health and safety experience in Ontario.
- Experienced and knowledgeable in the Canadian Occupational Health & Safety Act (CCOHS) and construction regulations and standards.
- Valid NCSO preferred.
- Ability to identify and mitigate hazards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong investigative skills including Root Cause Analysis.
- Current First Aid CPR + AED with naloxone injection training.
- Current working at heights training.
- Certification(s) or other applicable qualifications in Construction Safety and Training ex: OSHA 500, OSHA 30, HAZWOPPER 40, Confined Space.
- Strong computer skills including Outlook, Microsoft Office, etc.

- Competitive salary, commensurate with experience: (Range: $30/hr to $40/hr)
